Baby/toddler blanket project

Some of by best friends were having a baby and I wanted to get them a special gift: a handmade blanket. So I did some research on material and design, wow there are a lot of options out there!

In the end I opted for Phildar 3, a 100% cotton in the cute colours menthe, coral, anis, mercure, porcelaine and blanc. I've used Phildar before and was always more than happy with the quality but went for a finer yarn now and cotton so it can be washed over and over again.

Then I started thinking about the size, and this was a hard one. Since it was going to be a lot of work, I didn't want to end up making something that could only be used for the first couple of months. So I decided on 100x160cm, and although it was a hell of a job crocheting what felt like 6 milion quares and then putting them all together, by now the boy is 3 and still sleeps under his favourite blanky!
