Wow, the temples of Angkor were great !! Huge Jungle Book Disney movie fibe, beautiful ruins in the jungle with monkeys everywhere :) sunrise in the silence, super friendly people, kids playing in the moat and a mega lively night market, everything on a bike in the chaos, between the rice fields, stilt huts and fancy hotels. Yes, this is a major tourist attraction, and even though we're here in low-season, it's pretty busy, but that's all for a very good reason!
Then by bus to Battambang, a French colonial town on the river with enormous caves, we got horribly lost on the motorbike in the rice fields and did a ride on a bamboo train. Here the Khmerg Rouge have done nasty things, so it's a history lesson too, I can't beleive we didn't learn about this more in school. Read the beautiful book 'First they killed my father', which gave a whole new dimmension to everything we're learning about what happened here.
Crazy night bus with bunks and violent air-conditioning to Phnom Penh and a transfer there to to Sihanoukville, ofcourse the bus broke down, it took forever but now we're by the ocean! Just had breakfast on a white beach with palm trees and a beautiful blue sea with fishing boats and islands scattered on the horizon. Off towards a national parc with mangrove forest and tomorrow a boat-trip to an island with coral, where we go snorkeling overnight in a bamboo beach hut.
